Fishing Report

Millerton:

Water is at 35% and fairly stable with both Fresno and Madera ramps open. Overall bass bite has slowed for spotted bass; fish are still plentiful but on the small side. Shad colors or crawdad colors are both catching fish. Striper action has slowed in the river. The best place to try is around Finegold with a boat. Good numbers fishing the shad colors. Bank to about 30' seems to be the better bite. Spoon bite is fair to good over shad schools. Main Lake has been good for drop shotting.

Pine Flat:

Overall fishing has slowed. The trout bite is almost non-existent. The power line area and the south shore around Zebe Creek has been a just so-so area for trollers down about 50-60ft. Bass fishing has slowed down due to the low water. Number of fish here has not been as good as Millerton, but quality is better. Large crank baits will catch fish from the bank up to 15'. Dart heads with small shad colored worms will catch fish. Some catfish are coming in on anchovies and mackerel. Lake is at 12% with the Trimmer ramp out of the water. There are a better cut of fish being caught in the trees in Windy Gap on jigs, but bite is hit or miss.

Huntington:

Lake is about 30%. No ramp in the water and it won't be at all this year. A few trout on power bait where Rancheria Creek enters the lake. Launching is a real adventure. A few nice trout are being caught once you are on the water with blades and nightcrawlers. Trollers that can get boat in water are catching limits of 13"-14" fish with an occasional 16-17" fish. There is snow on the ground as of today.

Shaver:

Lake is at about 49%. Edison ramp is out of the water. A few of the trophy trout are showing each week but overall quality is good. Trollers are catching more fish than bank anglers. Black Rock, the dam, and Tunnel Creek have been fun areas for trout. Flashers and night crawlers on 3-4 colors along with trout busters are catching fish 13-15". Kokanee have about had it. Mag lures, silver & gold spinners, and Capt. Jack Hootchies in chartreuse or orange seem to work ok at 15-30'. A few nice small mouth being caught on dark colored grubs. Lake will be dropping until minimum pool is reached. Bite should get better as temperatures cool.

Courtright:

Bank angling has been very good. Some powerbait fish around the dam and trollers are using flashers and nightcrawlers. Small rapalas are catching some trout by flatlining. Yellow power bait is the best color and any lure with orange on it for trollers. Extra fish are being put in by DFW. Look out for the gate to be locked any day now. Chat with USFS for conditions.

Wishon:

Lake is about 40% full. Not sure about ramp conditions. A few fish to 3lbs are being caught. Overall numbers are good both for trollers and bank anglers. Flat fish, Thomas Buoyant, and Apex's are a good bite; as good as any in our area. Frog colored needlefish and flat fish for trollers. A lot of planters being caught from the shore. This lake is the best local trout bite by far. Extra plants up to 3lb are being released here. After a couple more storms, gate will lock at Dinkey Creek. Chat with USFS for conditions.

Lower San Joaquin River:
Power bait for those interested. 2 fish limit. Water releases are still present.

Lower Kings River:

Power bait and night crawlers catching a few fish. 2 fish limit. Water releases have slowed. Plants continue.

Edison:

Not many reports, but fishing is OK. Lake is still low but, fishing should be good. Kaiser pass should be closing shortly.

Mammoth Pool:

Lake is at about 8%, but fishing is very good. The boat launching is not available unless you carry it a long way. Crawdad fishing is still pretty good. Fish to 18" on powerbait.

Hensley:

Lake is about 5%. Fish up to 3lb coming in on plastics in 10-20'. Overall numbers are better this week than last. A few crappie for minnow fishermen, but no trout action. Catishing is pretty good. Lake should be good if ramps get in the water.

Eastman:

Water clarity is about 2' making boat navigation an adventure. Most obstacles are marked but not all of them. Be Careful! Lake is 8% full. Bass fishing has been fair. An occasional large bass being caught but numbers are just so-so. Anglers that know the lake can catch 8-12 fish per trip. Spinner baits and crank baits good if wind picks up. Lizards and senkos are also catching fish. Catfish have been found on stink bait or anchovies. Weeds are a big problem. Drop shotting, jigs, and brush hogs are pretty good for 2lb fish.

Bass lake:

Fair numbers of spots to 2lb this week. Water is at about 48% and ramps are questionable. Senkos and drop shotting in 5-20' of water will catch fish up to 2 1/2 lbs. Trout bite has slowed for both trollers and bank anglers. Overall bass bite is just ok. There is a lot of vegetation that has hampered bass fishing, but it is starting to die off. Lake is almost void of anglers.
